Barb Howe

Barb Howe is retired from West Virginia University, where she taught women’s history and women’s studies and directed the Public History Program and the Center for Women’s Studies. She has served as chair of the National Council on Public History, president of the National Women’s Studies Association, and as a council member for the American Association for State and Local History. Her research focuses on West Virginia women’s history, and her articles have appeared in West Virginia History, the Journal of Appalachian Studies, and Appalachian Journal, among others. She has also published articles on women and architecture and the history of women in historic preservation.
